Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    February 16, 2026

    Week 21: 200 games

Doug “the Bus Driver” Scott – 212. He has been bowling great all year.

Bruce “BB” Burger – 202. Bruce has become one of our top five bowlers this season.

Bob Callahan is back in town. That man has more travel miles than I have hair on my head. Yes, even 70 years ago.

The “Four Aces” have a 26-point lead. The “runaway train” picked up six. Dave “Albany Flyer” Cady was +20 over his average. Don “Dead Eye” Lee was +9 over his average. Too bad, he needs help handling the “Red Pin” coin collector without dropping it and spilling all the coins out. He has the best straight ball in the league.

Karl “Lucky” Peterson was 21 pins above his average to lead the “Bad Boys” to an 8-point sweep.

See everyone this Thursday. Candy, I have!

Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    February 10, 2026

Week 20:  Dave Cady – a 204 game. Dave was 14 pins above his average.

Last week I called the “Four Aces” a “run-away train.” Did I ever hit the nail on the head!! First in all four series.

Mark “Polish Tenor” Sabina: +21 above his average

Dave “Albany Flyer” Cady:  +14 above his average

Jim “Lefty” Ruane:  +8 above his average

    Other top bowlers:

Karl Peterson: +18 above his average

Gary Molyneaux: +21 above his average

Kevin McCarthy: +16 above his average

    Super Bowl winners:

                    Karl Peterson: Final Score

                    Steve Briggs: Halftime Score

Doug Scott and Dave Cady: Quarters

See you all Thursday. Bring your “A” game!

Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    February 3, 2026

Week 19:  The “Four Aces” have a 20-point lead over the second place “Pretenders.” They are playing like a “run-away train.” To stop them, any team has to bring their “A” game. What will Karl Peterson’s “Hoods” do?

Bruce “BB” Burger – 202. The only 200 game.

The initial 50-50 Scholarship fund drawing was a huge success. Frank Ward was $128.00 richer. Will Helmlinger – great job.

Ronnie Farquhar – give me a call, please!

We have 30+ bowlers in the league (includes both regular bowlers and substitutes). Thirty plus generous bowlers I have ever met! There is no “bad blood.” I have yet to touch the “kitty” for candy. We have a great bunch of guys, and we’re going to keep it that way!! Amen!!

    Super Bowl Sunday. Good Luck!

Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    January 27, 2026

Week 18: Again, we had NO 200 games but did the “20 Below Goys” ever put on a show. They took 1st in all series.

Frank Ward (“20 Below Boys”) 199 – 16 pins over overage

    Bruce Burger (“20 Below Boys”) – 171, 186, 191 – 21 pins over average

    Roy Tutunjian (“20 Below Boys”) – 156, 171, 184 – 31 pins over average

“20 Below Boys” team is the hottest team in the league. Watch out “Four Aces.” Roy Tutunjian (“Bob Feller”) is on fire. Last year, I almost had him in the “tennis club.” Bruce (“BB”) Burger is one of the Elite 6. And Frank (“CFO”) Ward is as steady as they come.

Hats off to Bob Callahan’s “Dudes”  for being the “Choir Boys.”  And this was without Monty.

    See you Thursday! Bring money!!

Week 17: Had no 200 games, but some nice scores:

                    Bruce “BB” Burger 195

Karl “the Swede” Peterson 195, 191

                    Will Helmlinger “President” 194, 194, 185

Good-bye Bears. There is one “unhappy puppy” in Osterville. Guess who?

Go Pats! And if you lost power near the end of the Bears game – call 800-934-6489 and get a rebate. I got $31.56.

This week, on the lanes 15 and 16, we have the “Dudes” vs. the “Bad Boys.” The “Dudes’ will be given an “old-fashioned” whipping. Callahan belongs in my “tennis club.” If he has any talent at all – it might be on the baseball diamond. “Bad Boys” to sweep the “Dudes.” Enough said!

Super Bowl tickets will be available starting this week.

See you all at the lanes!

Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    January 13, 2026

Thursday, January 8, 2026, we had our annual “9 Tap,” and the winners are:

    • ·         Karl Peterson – 281. The B.U. grad not only won the high single but took home the high three game series. Enjoy that bottle of French wine, Karl!
    • ·         Will Helmlinger – 265. What’s new? The President is our best bowler.
    • ·         Doug Scott – 257. The “Bus Driver” has been steady all year.
    • ·         Bob “Stoney” Stone – 252. “Stoney,” I still can’t believe it.
    • ·         Mike Curtis – 251. Mike is having a good year.

Our OMC President, Ronnie Farguhar, had a nice 250. Sorry-no cigar! He had a request made. We’ll bring it up prior to bowling this Thursday.

    Bring your “A” game!

    December 22, 2025

Week 15 – December 18 was our last week bowling for 2025. Congrats to Bruce Burger who had two, yes, two 200+ games.

Our next bowling day is January 8, 2026. It’s “Nine-Tap” day. (For anyone who is not familiar with “Nine-Tap”: knock down 9 pins on your first ball, and it counts as a strike.) And don’t forget that 5 bowlers will be prize winners. My 5 picks to be in the money are: Tom Rezendes, John Conant, Bob Caprio, Mike Curtis, and Mark Sabina. However, my prediction may be “a kiss of death.”

Don’t take it too seriously, but is anyone interested in a “practice” session on January 6? Call me!

Scones coming up (by popular request), and you don’t have to be from across the pond to enjoy.

Football pool is a go, again this season. See you next year (January 8, 2026).

    Happy Holidays to all!!!!

Week 14 - The “Four Aces” are still leading and there is an interesting story behind this. Dave (the Albany Flyer) Cady had his worst day in years. His legs are causing him trouble. Along comes Bob Caprioano, Don Lee and company to pick up the “Four Aces” and split with the “Bad Boys” – who are not “bad” anymore.

Don Lee wins a poinsettia with a 245-handicap game. Don Lee is “Mr. Dead Eye.”

Bruce Burger wins the other poinsettia with a 630-handicap series. Bruce is a first-year bowler with us. Way to go, Bruce!

I’m looking for bowlers to be put into my “Tennis Club.” Watch out!

Anyone interested in another Super Bowl pool???

See you all on Thursday, December 18, which is the last time we bowl before taking a break the holidays!

Tidbits from the Gerald R. Fortier Bowling League

    December 2, 2025

Week 12 had the “Dudes” facing the “Bad Boys.” The “Dudes” handed the “Bad Boys” an “old-fashioned whipping.” The “Bad Boys’ are not “bad” anymore. They are acting like a bunch of “choir boys.”

    Week’s team top scores:

Team Scratch Game – Dudes with a 724

Team Scratch Series – Dudes with a 2084

Team Handicap Game – Dudes with a 982

Team Handicap Series – Dudes with a 2858

Bob (the Ambassador) Callahan led the team with a week high of 605. To think, I almost had him in the ”tennis club.”

Jimmy Dunbar – WE WANT TO SEE YOU!

Kenny Leonard – WE ALSO MISS YOU. I need help holding up the “old guard.”

Monte (the Trooper) Gilardi has a birthday coming up – December 8. Happy Birthday!!

See you all at the lanes this Thursday December 4!
